“Twice recently we have paid in advance for Surface Terminal Parking and have driven round and round and round looking for a space. Our latest experience on 14th June, we ended up having to park outwith a parking space as there were cars still entering the car park, cars all driving around like ourselves searching for a space and nobody coming out of the terminal to leave! In 20 minutes there were 2 ladies getting in to 1 car so that is when we parked in the furthest away car park outwith the white lines but not causing an obstruction. Another vehicle had been abandoned on yellow chevrons!!
Making matters worse on the way home the machine was requesting a payment of £280 so we spoke to the man at the end of the buzzer who told us the machines were playing up!!! He told us to go to the exit and buzz him back with our booking reference which we did. This has happened to us every time we leave the multi-storey and now the surface parking which is a bit suspicious..... My husband and son came back from America in September 2015 and were charged £500+ for parking because they didn't have the paperwork for the pre-booking. They were too tired to argue.
All and all we haven't had the best experiences with parking at the terminal and will be booking long stay from now on.”
“Secure, good value for money , however, no buses were running on return to Edinburgh on Sunday night (25th) at 23:00, had to walk to my car from the terminal - was not happy!”
“When we arrived back at the long stay car park and put the ticket in the machine a requirement for £76 payment came up even though it was prepaid at a much lower figure. I contacted support through the intercom. Luckily I had printed of the booking confirmation. He could not find the booking on either of your databases, clearly did not believe me and told me to wait until someone came down. After waiting a while suddenly the barrier went up. No explanation. No apology.”
“I prepaid my week's parking and we arrived back from Menorca on a late flight. When I arrived at the car park exit barrier and inserted my ticket which had my car reg on it, I expected the barrier to lift but instead I was presented with a £115 to pay message - not what we needed after a relaxing holiday. I pressed the assistance button and was then asked for my booking reference which I did not have to hand. Fortunately, your attendant was able to find my transaction from my car reg and let us out. I thought that your car parks had ANPR. The car parking was the only thing that went wrong on our holiday.”
“Everything was fine until I picked up the car at valet parking. I was then directed to leave through the drop off point. At the exit, I was told, either the barrier would raise, or I should press the button for help and tell them I had just picked up the car from the valet. The barrier didn't raise, so I pressed the button. Therfe was no response, and I pressed the button several times with no response. This was a busy timeand there was a queue odf cars behind me, so in the end I just had to pay £1 to get through the barrier. Leaving valet parking you always have to press for asssitance - the barrier never raises automatically - and this is impractical at busy times. A better way of leaving valet parking should be found.”
“Signage is particularly poor meaning that I ended up firstly in the drop off area and was charged £1 to get out again before I found the correct entrance.”
“Second time I've used this pre booked parking, and second time the automatic licence plate identification at the barrier hasn't worked. On this occasion when we pressed for a ticket we were told the booking hadn't transferred through to the system and to press for a ticket, when leaving we inserted the ticket for the machine to tell us we were due to pay £360! Buzzed the operator who fixed but seems this system doesn't work as it should as this is the second time this has happened”
“The relocation of the bus stop for the Long Stay car park is a backwards step. Used to drop you right at the door . Now it doesn't! Ok for me.Im still youngish and fit but older people on our bus were struggling with cases etc to get from bus to Terminal entrance.
When arriving home in the arrivals hall the sign actually directs you straight outside to the bus terminal. Why? Why get wet/cold outside when you can walk all the ay through the terminal and come out at the far end and be far nearer the bus terminal. Also the expression bus terminal does not make it clear this is where you get the bus for the long stay. Sounds more like where you get a bus into town etc. Sign should say Buses/Long Stay or similar. All very confusing especially if a foreigner.”
“Arrived at entrance barrier to surface parking area at 4 in the morning after several hours drive. Prepaid and should have been number plate recognition. BARRIER DID NOT LIFT and no instructions what I should do. Had to accept a new payment card to get barrier to lift. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. OBVIOUSELY COULD NOT EXIT THE PARK WITH THE CARD AS I DID NOT PAY A SECOND CHARGE. HAD WORRIED ABOUT THIS ALL MY HOLIDAY. The buttons at the card acceptance meter are not marked to say what one to press for help but managed to eventually get help and problem sorted mut ch to my relief and the queue behind me. What a poor way to run this business”
“Ticket wouldn't work at the exit, "amount due £252" is not a pleasant feeling on your way home. Also there was no intercom button. Further, no room to move the car other than by backing up which wasn't immediately possible with traffic queued behind (including the usual grumpy taxi drivers - why don't they have a dedicated exit?).”
“Didn't recognise my registration when we arrived prior to flying out on holiday and on return it asked us to pay £265.00, so once again it didn't know we had paid. The guy I spoke to on the intercom both times couldn't have been any more helpful, but the idea was to drive straight in and out on the way back. Was disappointed.”
“Paid an extra £20 to book terminal surface parking rather than have to get a bus due to 3 of us being due to arrive back at 10.45pm. Ended up having to park in the back section (row R) as other bit had sign saying was full so could have saved the money as walked as far as the bus anyway”
“a) Poor signposting
b) All marked slots taken (we pre-booked), so we had to park on perimeter road
c) Charge exceeded quote by £40
d) Much longer wait for parking bus than that for NCP bus.
All in all a dismal experience”
“Pre booking and number plate were not recognised at entry.
This was fixed by phone at the in barrier, however the validated card was not recognised at the out barrier on leaving which meant another interaction by barrier phone.........”
“Security. The place is a shambles. I use Edinburgh airport at least once a week for work. Getting through security for an early flight is a mess. After you scan your boarding pass it's a complete free for all when busy with people walking everywhere and skipping the 'queue'. Also staff are pretty rude. I get you see thousands of people a day but a smile wouldn't go a miss!”
