“I pre-booked the parking for a week trip to Italy. When we arrived on the 31st March the outdoor part of the car park was very busy and actually appeared to be full. Having circled a few times I then headed for the multi storey part. Although each floor said there were many spaces we could find none and ended up on the 3rd floor where we parked. When I returned very late on the 7th April and inserted my ticket to leave it showed £364 was due. The attendant explained the booking was only for the uncovered part, this is not the same as Glasgow where I use the pre booking regularly, but he was kind enough to let us go with no further charge. Really need to have spaces if you have pre-booked and make it very clear some areas are not covered.”
“I guess the entire experience was less than ideal. I arrive at the carpark at the agreed time, and then spent the next 30 minutes trying to hunt down a space like Sean Connery looking for a submarine! On return and exit out of the barrier, my ticket asked me for £90 for one nights parking, even though I'd pre-paid. A call to the security did fix this, however, again another delay on exit which I thought pre-booking was meant to fix. All in all, Edinburgh Airport charges premium rate for it's parking which usually I can accept due to physical location and ease of entry and exit, however, I think based on this experience, I would have been better saving my money and booking at one of the out of airport car parks”
“Entry to the car park was straightforward, having prepaid. This was spoilt by a demand on the way out for £225. My crime? Going into the multi-storey section of the car park, accessible without having first left the surface car park and therefore apparently part of the same zone. I did not note any obvious warning that this was going into a different tariff zone.
Fortunately the operator was prepared to accept the explanation, which retrieves one star but it left a nasty taste coming back from a nice break.”
“Pre booked ticket was rejected when I returned after a week. Ticket machine asked for £280.
Because it was dark, I could not find a button to speak to someone about the problem. I went back to the pay machine shelter to look for a phone, but still couldn’t find one. Another driver was having the same problem and he walked back to the multi storey to look for help.
l returned to the car and tried pressing different buttons and eventually found that the top left hand button connected connected me to an assistant operated the barrier from his end. The telephone button should be more clearly marked as the small print on the button cannot be read at night.”
“This is the first time I have parked at Edinburgh Airport.
1 All the carparks close to the Terminal were booked. I booked Midfor 36 hours at £33.
2 The signing is awful and you worry you are going into an area from which you cannot get out. After a few trips around the roundabouts there is a small sign for Mid CarPark.
3 I found this in the pouring rain. The barrier is only across half the roadway and i could not see it and nearly drove into it
4 I took the ticket and there was no explnation on what to do if you have prepaid and want to exit.
5 There are few signs saying the way to the terminal
6 The walk is miserable and the puddles mean dragiing the wheels through the wet.
7 On return the car in front had to reverse as they had not paid
8 I had paid and spoke to the intercom at the barrier before I drove to the barrier. Explained I did no know how to ensure my prepaid card would let me me out, and was told to put the card in and contact them by intercom if it did not work.
9 I drove up put the card in and £75 came up for 36 hours. I contacted via intercom keeping all behind waiting and eventually with my reference number I was allowed through.
10 If this is how you run the car park God help the people getting on the plane.”
“Spent 25 - 30minutes on arrival looking for a space before I struck lucky. Up and down and around the ranks. Not a good start to the airport experience.”
“Car park is badly signposted from main road, and once you miss the entrance you are stuck on a one way road that goes right up to the terminal and offers no escape except through a paid ticket barrier.
Shuttle bus pulled away from the bus stop (empty) just as we got to it to board after having to catch it up on the 250+ yard walk from the arrivals hall to the bus stop by the check in hall”
“Service was excellent, the valet parking was easy to use and was ready for me on my return hence the 2 stars. What made the experience unpleasant was the punitive charge levied when I picked the car up late! £60 for 24hrs, even though I informed them the day before that I’d be unable to make my flight through no fault of my own!”
“Very expensive and have to walk through a proper building site to get to the airport. Street crossings have heavy equipment running back and forth as well as large trucks (must be the delivery entrance for the site) and walk through the smoking shelter of the site As well. Overall not a great approach to the airport and surprised the HSE lets this walkway through this area.”
“Positives: Access to terminal was good. Assistance with battery booster on return was very helpful and efficient.
Negatives: Fully flexible booking does not allow booking to be managed online after parking. I was delayed on my return from a work trip due to a delay outwith my control. I tried to amend the booking to add an additional day. This was not possible. I emailed your team who advised that I would have to make another booking however this separate booking for 1 day would cost 70% of what I had paid for 15 days. I asked if I could pay the additional day based on the original long term rate and was told that this would not be possible but that a note was left on the booking to advise the situation and that I would be able to leave the car park without issue. On trying to depart the car park I called assistance to discuss the matter and after explaining the situation I was greeted with "it doesn't work like that" and "why did you not come back yesterday". I do not think it is fair to advertise a "Fully Flexible" booking which is only flexible until you enter the car park. This is a refundable booking, not flexible. The attitude of the assistance was very poor. I am disappointed with the level of service received and will be electing to use either public transport or off site parking in the future.”
“My flight was cancelled, and when I did finally get home the following day and went to leave the car-park, it wanted to charge me £50, even though I'd paid only £45 for the whole week.
When this has happened to me in Glasgow, they let me out without a charge.”
“Don't know what went wrong but when I went to leave the pre booking failed me and the machine at the barrier wanted money from me, so embarrassingly I held everyone up trying to get it sorted”
“We have used the Long Stay parking on 3 previous occasions always prebooked on-line and every time we try to leave at the end of the holiday it does not accept the ticket leading to added stress when trying to leave after an early start in the morning. We probably won't use it again for this reason. My son booked his car in after we booked and his ticket was accepted. Maybe you don't like my registration number.”
“Despite raising this issue over the years nothing has happened to improve the situation. I keep buying advanced parking via the official airport web site and EVERY TIME I leave the site my ticket is not recognised as pre-paid and I am refused exit until I quote my booking reference via the assistant. The ticket correctly identifies my number plate which is recognised and should link to my pre-paid ticket. This has happened every time for years. Also the website never recognises me despite my repeated use and its promise to do so.
I can't be the only person that this happens to so why is it never fixed?”
“Twice, my company prepaid parking. I was asked to drive in to the Long Stay car park and take a ticket, and that the gate would recognise my car registration number. I did so. When trying to exit the car park, once at 11pm in the dark, the gate would not open and I was asked for £100 payment the first time and £68 last week. I had to call the operator at the exit to be let out.”
“The signage for parking around Edinburgh airport is woefully inadequate, contradictory and unsatisfactory. I had thought I’d booked for the open-air parking next to the multi-storey, but apparently I had booked mid-way parking & therefore I was almost charged an additional £90.00 on top of what I had already pre-paid for my parking! I’m not a frequent flyer, but use Edinbugh airport about 3 or 4 times a year. I’m not a ‘doddering, confused pensioner either, but a professional person in my forties. It seems the parking arrangements & terminologies for the various car parks change as often as the wind blows in a different direction! Your staff quickly resolved the situation for me without me paying the ludicrous extra £90.00, but this could do easily have been avoided in the first place.”
“waited more than twenty minutes for bus, when drop at car parking the driver just went round the outskirts of the parking and not to the other bus stops nearer my vehicle and then to finish of the experience some glitch in the system cause us being delayed from exiting the parking”
