“Poor directions to the long stay car park and lack of clear signage when you arrive. We waited 20 minutes for a bus to come from the airport back to the car park and eventually gave up and walked (along with some cabin crew). Pretty poor service really.”
“Booked into Long Stay Express for 1 week. At departure, left car and keys, caught bus to terminal all good. On arrival collected keys, found car and on inserting ticket at barrier discovered I was being charged an extra £38! Turns out I had booked to arrive at midnight but plane was delayed (someone had an accident) and arrived after midnight and was promptly charged an entire days parking, full rate for being half-hour late! Lesson - if arriving after 11pm make sure your plane doesnt arrive late! Fortunately gatekeeper validated my card and we did not have to pay - but it was an unneccessary addition to stressful late night flight. How about some flexibility Edinburgh?”
“I am well aware of Edinburgh airport but trying to find the way into the multi-storey car park was a nightmare it took nearly 25 mins from the roundabout at the Hilton until we finally found a the way in and a space to park totally rediculous please bring back proper valet parking”
“Great pre booking online service. Fast and easy but oh my goodness terrible exiting the car park. 20 mins or more in a line to exit. Each and every week it’s horrendous. You don’t get that at Glasgow !!”
“Car parked for just under 2 weeks. Returned to find it badly damaged and with a flat battery (due to the damage setting off the alarm). Had to fill out my own incident form at 3am in the cold. A review of the CCTV was promised but never returned any information regarding the incident which I find hard to believe. Also would have thought a car alarm sounding for a long enough to flatten a battery would have alerted the attention of car park staff yet it appears not to have.
Only plus was the member of staff who jumped started my car - very efficient and helpful.”
“Parking in multi storey is great BUT the signage as you enter the surface parking is not clear that it is also the way to the multi storey, I had to manoeuvre around with cars waiting behind me. AND the pricing policy is A SCANDAL, worse than Wonga Loans. My flight was stuck in Oslo for 6+ hours and I had to pay £26 to get out. The price for a week was £74.99 and for an extra 6 hours was £26. You like to hit people when they are down! I did an online chat to check and was told that was the policy.”
“Really struggled to find a space. Cars were parked on the double yellows outwith the parking bays, because other people had found the same. The cause is the fact that a new 'fast track' long stay area is being made, reducing the space for other vehicles. If you have paid up-front for your parking, you expect a space to be available.”
“Two main problems;
Signage to the correct parking within the airport boundary is unclear and confusing.
The text message confirmation when making a pre-paid booking does not make clear that the reference number given in the text message has to be retained and quoted in order to exit the car park without paying a second time.
This is now the second time I have used the car-parking at Edinburgh Airport and I have had difficulties locating the correct car park on both occasions and ended up with excessive charges. On the whole, the facilities are good and the prepaid booking is good value, but the whole experience could be greatly improved with clearer signage and better instructions.”
“I use the car parking a lot and pre-book. As I pay upfront I don't expect to be charged again on the way out. When it happens to me I know about it and ring the helpline and the barrier is lifted but when my wife used it earlier in the week (Monday) she didn't know and paid an additional £56.00 - how do I get a refund?”
“usually park on surface but had to wait 1hour 20mins on 9th Sunday once I had got into the car park. it was apparently taking 2 hours to get out and this was due to Ingliston having events. not usually any issues using this car park and maybe a bad day but definitely added a lot of stress to catching a flight. as stated hopefully a one off.”
“Quick transfer to terminal but no spaces available in booked car park or any other ended up having to leave the car on a verge in long stay like a lot of others”
“I found it extremely difficult to find a parking space for my car. It meant that I had to run to catch my flight. The parking lot was difficult to negotiate with the one way system in place. It was £10 more than the long stay parking which I used in the summer and had none of these difficulties. Will be unlikely to use again.”
“Short of spaces at dept
Very crowded bus at arrival
Prebooked ticket didn’t work
It took 10 mins to get it sorted
(Call button at barrier invisible in dark)”
“There was a massive traffic jam, so yesterday we had to walk dragging all of our baggage from the terminal to plane parking. Not acceptable!
There was a nice gentleman that helped direct us out of the parking lot, but there is no reason why that traffic jam and lack of bus transport should have happened in the first place.”
“I’d normally rate as excellent but took us almost 3 hours to get out of the car park due I understand to an event but total lack of traffic management. Felt very sorry for those trying to catch a flight out.”
“The surface parking is insufficient for the size of the airport. I had pre-paid and had to drive around the car park several times before I found a vacant parking space. This is not what you want to do if you are hurrying to catch a flight.”
“The Terminal Surface car park had a sign directing cars to the far away areas that require a five minute walk in the rain. These areas were almost full but when walking to the terminal there were many empty spaces in the main parking area. Closer monitoring of the flow of parking is required. I was concerned that the overflow area might be full.”
