“I was not amused when the machine which is supposed to have number plate recognition tried to charge me a fee of £119 for parking as I exited the car park, when I had prepaid and had both the ticket and booking reference.
Fortunately this mistake was rectified by the person answering enquiries at the barrier when I read out my booking reference number.
However, it does not give me much confidence in the pre-booking of parking at the airport, and worries me that I could have just pressed to exit and my card would have been charged at this exorbitant rate.”
“I prebooked my car into the Edinburgh Airport car park for an overnight stay, and paid £54.99 - expensive but bearable. I arrived at the airport at 12.11 rather than 13.30 as booked, and left the next day at 21.45 rather than 21.30 as booked. When I reached the exit barrier I was charged an extra £79!! (for an hour and 20 minutes extra parking). I had no choice but to pay this. Pure extortion. Shameful.”
“After having problems with airport parking only two years ago we flew back from a wonderful break in Germany only to approach the car with trepidation. We had followed instructions to the letter and had parked close in the terminal parking area. On leaving the carpark we placed ticket in machine only to be quoted £145. After buzzing operator and shouting booking reference we finally got out of carpark not exactly happy. Once again your two systems the ticket parking and the automatic number plate recognition don't seem to match we are pretty certain we followed the internet instructions to the letter.”
“Arriving home cold and exhausted having paid for holiday parking and taking a ticket 14 days earlier on arrival, THERE are few words to explain my dismay and concern when faced for a demand for over £500 at the ticket barrier and being prevented from leaving.
I assume this was a software glitch. Can you imagine walking through a dark, poorly lit carpark looking for someone to speak about this when the button that says speak to an assistant at the barrier simply ejects your ticket every time you enter it.
Can you understand the misdirected frustration building up behind you as other weary travellers are prevented from continuing the final leg of their journey as you are blocking one of the few exits to the car park.
This will not be happening again.”
“Booked Multistorey car parking with fast track & paid the extra, but on arrival a big sign placed in front of multi story saying it was full & to use the outside park. I would suggest it was not full as after I parked I approached the building on way to terminal & saw numerous empty bays available. Absolute scam!!
What is the point in paying for this service when I couldnt use it?
Then on attempting to exit, the machine asked for FURTHER payment???????????? not happy”
“Vastly overpriced parking, rude security staff, entry/exits that seem to change on a weekly basis, £3.50 pick up charge, when arriving on a flight at a relatively late time, eg 9pm, you are bussed to the most remote gate causing a very long walk back to the luggage carousel. Need I continue??”
“Arrived at Edinburgh at 11 o'clock at night after 10 hours travelling desperate to get home. The car park was chaos and took 10 minutes to get to the barrier. Then had to wait for another 10 minutes to get out! There were roadworks right outside the car park exit and the traffic was going nowhere. Sitting in a traffic jam at that time of night just to leave a car park is completely ridiculous and in future I will try not to fly from Edinburgh as a result”
“If you are elderly, have walking problems or perhaps small children this is not the car park for you, there are no bus stops in the car park you have to walk to the long stay one for your bus.”
“Used the Valet parking and was efficient and reliable as usual. Staff very friendly and helpful. Our flights were changed coming home and we were delayed by 6 hours. Phoned them and this was no problem.”
“Arrived 10 minutes before time on booking when leaving car park we were charged a further £12.00 then got to pay machine it had went up a further 18pence . Even though we were 29 minutes earlier leaving the car park as on our booking. Used this car park before no problems but will be looking at other options in future really really poor .”
“Having booked on line for paring for three days while I flew to Berlin, I returned last night and tried to exit the car park but the machine told me that i owed over one hundred pounds and would not let me out without me having to contact the parking control. I was very unhappy about this as it is not the first time this has happened. Your systems are not working properly.”
“Despite paying over £70 for one weeks parking when we arrived at the airport there were no spaces available in the surface car park. Luckily we found someone who was about to leave who was kind enough to wait until we maneuvered our car into position before he left.”
“I travel through Edinburgh Airport generally once or twice a week. I can easily count on one hand the number of times in the past year that my return flight has been given a stand. Usually the flight crew are so happy to advise their earlier arrival only to then wait on a bus. This is then followed by a wait on ground staff manning a door and invariably this is the door furthest from the arrivals lounge - gate 23, 20 and 19 being the most common - so the walk back to the car park is twice as long. Given that on occasion the bus can pull up outside the arrivals hall I have to question if poor relations between the airline and airport are resulting in unnecessary poor customer service. Frustrated.”
“I used the multi storey car park with access into Fast Track security. Very convenient, very quick from car to through security, but utterly extortionate. 13 hours = £49, total joke.
I haven't used Edinburgh for a few years and used to use the multi storey, but never again at those prices. Most expensive walkway in the country
Scored very poor, just on price alone. If pricing was more reasonable would have marked very good”
“We used the new Mid Stay car park on the basis of information on the airport website site. The information is very misleading There are no busses to pick you up. Walking with two suitcases took us 15 minutes. We were soaked by the time we reached the terminal building. I would hate to try this if it was snowing or icy!”
“This was the first time I had flown from Edinburgh Airport. Despite doing my research I still found it really confusing that there are signposts for long stay car parking to competitor parking before the official parking even though I had SatNav. It made me doubt my SatNav and I took a wrong turn once as a result.
I do not remember seeing a SatNav post code for the official parking online and had to look up the Hilton Hotel post code to make sure I went to the right car park.
My understanding is that the car park has number plate recognition. I pre-booked/prepaid but the barrier still said I owed money and I had to call for assistance and provide a booking number to be let out.”
“I pre-booked parking at the multi-storey. When I arrived the only free spaces indicated were on level five. I could not find any spaces on the way up and no-one to ask. I drove to level five and found a space but a member of staff followed me and said level five was for pre-booked valet only and that he was sorry it was so busy but that was just the way it was and he had no suggestions of what I should do. I had to drive around the car park for some considerable time and nearly missed my flight, I did eventually find somewhere to put my car after some other customers told me that they had been told to park "wherever they could". Not the start I was looking for to a major family holiday with two small children.
1) It was disappointing there was no one available to ask when I needed help on what to do but someone arrived promptly to move me on when I thought I had finally found a space
2) The manner of the staff member left a lot to be desired including threatening to call security and offering no help to help find me somewhere to park even though I had pre-booked and paid in advance.
3) It is odd that you are using level 5 for valet parking when there are clearly not enough space in the car park - the valet parking could be offsite.
4) What is the point in having the digital displays showing where spaces are when you are not allowed to park in the spaces you are directed to.
5) It is misleading to say that the parking is 5mins from the terminal when it takes considerably longer than that to find a space.”
