“Out of all the airports I park at the customer experience at Edinburgh at Edinburgh airport has to be the worst.
I have frequent issues where the system at Edinburgh airport does not recognise my number plate and then tries to charge on leaving the car park when I had already prepaid.
You then have to call the parking attendant, find your reservation number so they can manually override the system and open the barrier.
There are issues where the payment machines wouldn't accept credit cards.
Issues where some of the exit lanes don't work.
Compared with parking at say Manchester or Aberdeen, the Edinburgh parking experience is inefficient and prone to technical difficulties.
Where you have prebooked....
The system should recognise all UK legal number plates.
The system should associate the number plate with the booking.
Where someone has pre booked, it should recognise the vehicle number plate, allow the vehicle to enter the car park ticketless.
When leaving the car park before or up to the prebooked time, it should recognise the number plate and open the barrier immediately without the need to enter a ticket.”
“My booking was made at a time when your web site was having problems - it was down for at least 24 hours - i called by telephone and was assured that all would be well soon and i should try to book agaon - I did the following day but there were obviously still problems as the resulting booking (enclosed) was for the wrong days and dates and times. i didn't notice until about 6 days later when we were checking our itinerary - I telephoned the desk again and was told that under your terms there was no refund possible - absolutely unacceptable 'jobsworth' reaction. I lost £64.99 through your computer error with no apology and no refund.

“Entering the car park caused little difficulty except that the designated car park was full and therefore the car had to be parked in an adjacent area causing a longer walk than if a space in the promised area had been available.
Leaving the car park caused, however a major difficulty. As instructed I introduced my parking ticket into the exit machine which promptly told me that not only was I to a payment but that the payment demanded was £587. Evidently, according to the official on duty I should have cancelled the transaction, but this was not at all clear and in any event the lighting, this incident taking place after dark, was wholly inadequate to read anything on the machine that it might have helped further.
As you might imagine there were some impatient drivers behind me and in my heightened state of stress my attempt to remove my car from this embarrassing situation resulted in some unfortunate damage to its front bumper.
My wife and I re-parked the car in section R-S and returned the considerable distance to your office where the official, while resolving the issue, did not appear to be unduly sympathetic and could not offer any explanation for the error.
Needless to say, I am less than ecstatic about the service provided.”
“"Came back to my car with a 30 cm scratch on front wing that wasn't there when I left the car. Spoiled a very good holiday. Respray required. Won't be using again!"”
“We missed our intended flight home due to air traffic control problems at Newark and were delayed for 24 hours. On exiting the car park we had to pay a late exit fee of £51.87 which I consider to be outrageous.”
“Parked up at 4am as per my scheduled slot. Waited for half an hour for the bus that is supposed to run every 8/10 minutes (even your website doesn't know as it quotes different times and durations) before having to walk to the terminal building out of fear of missing my flight. I was far from the only person to do this, many others were in the same boat.”
“I had paid app. £41 on line to park from 8am on 13/9 to 10.30pm on 17/9/17 for our flight 1441 with BA to Heathrow and arrived in plenty of time to find there were no parking places on site. After touring around for about 15 mins we were fortunate to see someone leaving and took their vacant place. As we are both almost 80 the pressure of possibly missing our flight was building as we noted not a few but a large number of cars illegally parked on the lanes and corners of the passages it was apparent that no one was in charge to help or direct .”
“Finding a space in the long stay car park was extremely difficult despite having pre-booked and paid in advance. There were numerous cars double parked on the roads and pavements within the car park but outwith the designated parking spaces. Clearly significantly more parking had been sold than there were places available. I spent some 15-20 minutes driving round the car park before managing to secure a designated space just as it was vacated. I noted numerous other drivers having to do the same.”
“I had pre-booked at the terminal surface car park only to find out that the car park was fully occupied. After having circled around for quite a long time I tried to find staff who probably could offer advice but none was visible. Fortunately an off-duty security staff member made me aware of a smaller adjacent car-park on the opposite side of the entrance road where plenty spaces were available.”
“Barrier would not open ( this happened to few people) was advised to go to long stay and take a ticket. Had to pay £140 to get out again ( not impressed)”
“80% of the time I have booked the middle car park online for approx £30 I have been asked approx £100 on exit. It's only by hunting for my email and the booking code that I have been allowed to leave. Every time I think it's a one off but now I expect it and have my email ready. What is the issue???”
“Number plate recognition did not work on entering. On leaving after 10 days ticket machine demanded £196 even though there was a prebook. Intercom on unit did not work and had to reverse out of exit. Damaged car to the tune of £800 on raised kerb and all in all a terrible experience”
“Catastrophic directions for parking
More than One hour to get inside the parking because of huge traffic from the entrance to the parking itself
Almost missed my flight, even though I was 1h30 early.
Price : too expensive”
“Baggage handling delays from aircraft to lounge resulted in going over the time by about 20 minutes and charged an extra £27.
Legal theft is what I would call it. This after charging £80”
“Booked online and paid well in advance but on leaving the car park the barrier would not open and ticket machine said I owed £150. First member of car park staff I asked, could not help. Eventually had to go to the office who fixed the problem, although no explanation was given. Not the first time I've had problems trying to exit.”
“Our flight home was cancelled and we couldn't amend our booking online. We contacted the office and were told to pay any extra at the payment machine on the way out but we were overcharged. It should have been £45 at £15 per day for each day over 8 days in the car park according to the sign on the machine, but the machine charged us £76 extra as though it was a new 3-day booking. The voice on the intercom was extremely unhelpful and gave us some dud information. We won't be parking here again.”
